Coaches & Managers:
Congratulations to all teams who have applied.  Please find attached for your review and planning the 2008 TAHA State Tournament Playdowns and Guidelines.  Pairings for playdown games as determined by the State Tournament Committee are provided based on extensive analysis of game records and other information submitted in each teams' application.  Each team needs to begin scheduling their playdown games as soon as possible!

Changes from previous state tournaments are mentioned below.  All coaches and managers should read these closely along with the Tournament Guidelines (unchanged) before asking any questions.

General

  • Many teams have not paid their $500 tournament entry fees, which must be done before your playdown game can be played. Checks must be received by Mark Servaes at 3203 Castlewind Dr. , Katy , TX   77450 , no later than Mon., Dec. 10, or your team will forfeit its playdown game or series.
  • Many of you have not provided any team roster information, which is also needed before any game can be played.  This requested roster information (1-T & Eligibility Grid with jersey numbers) must be submitted to Mark Servaes immediately, along with any changes if you have already submitted your roster.
  • Once your playdown games are scheduled, the host team must provide a date/rink/time to Mark Servaes so this information can be inputted into PointStreak that will be used this year to track results via the TAHA website at www.tahahockey.org.
  • As stated in the Tournament Guidelines, the cost of each playdown game shall be paid 75% by the losing team, and 25% by the winning team.  Based on lessons learned from previous tournaments, each team should be prepared at the end of each playdown game to compensate the other team accordingly based on who won and lost.  Game costs include ice, officials, and scorekeeper, so all teams should be prepared to cut a check after each game.  TAHA should not have to police the game cost collection process if everyone is prepared, professional, and respectful of others.
  • Tier I, U18 teams will play a double round-robin with the first round of games to be played Fri-Sun Feb 1-3 while the second round of games to be played Thu-Sat Feb 7-9 with a 7th game championship between the two teams with the most points.
  • All playdown games shall be played to a win under OT and shootout rules included in Section 6 of the Tournament Guidelines.
  • Only 1 team at each Tier age division will advance to the Rocky Mountain District Tournament to be played Mar. 13-16, 2008.

Round 1

  • Round 1 playdown games will be a single elimination with the game to be hosted by the higher rank team.
  • These games need to be completed by Mon., Dec. 31, 2007, as many Round 2 games can't begin beforehand.

Round 2

  • Round 2 playdown games will be a best-of-3 format, and all such games must be completed by Mon., Jan. 28, 2008.
  • In order to minimize travel under a "common sense approach", all Round 2 playdown games should be played on the same weekend in the city of the higher rank team.  The higher rank team shall be home team for games 1 & 3, while the lower rank teams shall be home team for game 2.
  • If both teams prefer to schedule games on separate weekends, then higher rank team shall host games 1 & 3 and be home team, while the lower rank team shall host game 2 and be home team.

Any questions regarding the 2008 TAHA State Tournament should be directed to Ted Skinner or Mark Servaes . Good luck to all participating teams...
